The Academy Maniacs

Between December 2010 and April 2011, two teenage boys, Artyom Anoufriev and Nikita Lytkin, committed several murders in Irkutsk, Academgorodok. They were known as the Academy Maniacs, or the Irkutsk Molotochniki, which translates to "Hammer Men of Irkutsk." Together they killed six people and injured nine others.

Lytkin and Anoufriev were caught on April 5th, 2011, and both were charged with murder, robbery, abuse of victims' bodies and organizing extremist activities. The investigation lasted until February 2013 and on April 2nd, 2013, Anoufriev was senstenced to life in prison. Lytkin recieved a twenty-four year sentence, which was later shortened to twenty years. While in prison at Correctional Colony No. 7 at Angarsk, Lytkin slit his wrists on November 30th, 2021, and his body was found the next day.
